Based on research, conducted during the time period of December 2009-October 2010, telecom jobs seem to have increased in London and UK. Jobs in the wireless technology sector increased the most, with job posting in the sector increasing by 169.10% per month. Following the wireless technology sector is the broadband sector, with job postings increasing by 24.26%. Jobs in GSM have increased by 6.56% per month.

However all is not well in the telecom sector. While wireless, broadband and GSM sectors developed, GPRS and 3G sectors plummeted. Job postings in GPRS decreased by 75.82% while jobs in 3G decreased by 56.20%.

Over the above mentioned period, software engineers who had a command over Java and C++ were more successful at gaining jobs, than the software engineers proficient in C# and Perl. Monthly job percentages increased by 24.92% and 13.67% in Java and C++ respectively. But jobs in C# and Perl decreased by 11.08% and 12.75% respectively.

The education field seems to have plummeted. Job postings for teachers and professors have fallen by 46.59% and 34.54% respectively.

The market’s demand for MBA graduates seem to be steadily increasing. Monthly job percentages for MBA professionals have increased by a whopping 93.26%.

Construction companies fear that there may be loss of jobs in the industry as repair and maintenance work may not be in demand, due to the increase in VAT in UK. Jobs, small businesses, and standards of life might be hit by the rise in VAT, warns MP Miliband.
